Conservation Initiative Grows at Ace

By Cheryl Ann Lambert, Senior Editor
The Enviro News

Seven hundred members of Ace Hardware Corp. are currently participating in the co-op's educational environmental campaign. By year's end, the Oak Brook, IL-based group hopes to have 1,500 dealers signed on to the conservation Initiative that was developed along with The WATER Foundation, a Brainerd, and MN-based environmental education group.

Ace has extended the imitative beyond advertising, promotional materials and sponsoring conservation tips on radio, however. The co-op also developed a corporate statement on the environment to be: proactive in identifying and implementing ways to improve the environment with its independent stores," according to a company statement. That means Ace corporate will use energy-efficient lighting, appliances and insulation right along with its members, it also means Ace will work with its vendors, employees and industry organizations to develop programs to help improve the environment.
